Here you will find Villa Pignatelli, which houses collections of paintings and applied arts, and Castel dell’ Ovo, the oldest castle of Naples. Its name comes from an ancient legend by the Roman poet Virgil, in medieval times considered a magician. This legend says that the secrets of the building were all kept into an egg (Ovo) that kept the whole fortress standing. Its failure would have led not only to the collapse of the castle, but also to a series of catastrophic disasters to the city of Naples.
